Susan - Women’s Night Program

St. Patrick Center's Women's Night Program [WNP) assists women experiencing homelessness, helping them to overcome barriers to permanent housing. WNP provides case management, individual counseling, treatment planning and emergency shelter for up to 30 women who have behavior health issues and/or substance abuse issues. The women are connected with various agency programs as well as community partners.

Susan was once a client in the WNP, coming to St. Patrick Center after a long, cold month of living on the street. Susan became unhoused through a very unfortunate situation. After escaping an abusive relationship and moving in with her uncle, two years later her uncle passed away. Her nephew took possession of the home and promptly forced Susan out, leaving her on the street with few belongings to her name. Outside in the cold, constantly fearing for her life, Susan fell ill and ended up in the hospital for a week. Once out of the hospital and back on the street, Susan was taken to a women's shelter where she spent a short time before joining the WNP at St. Patrick Center. Susan was only at SPC for a few months before she received a housing voucher and quickly moved into permanent housing. "I knew when I walked into that [first] house it was mine", says Susan. She has now been housed for 7 months and enjoys spending time with her lovely cat, Socks.
