Innovation. It’s a buzz word we hear in classrooms and working groups, and on TV. It’s what provides us the energy to create and improve processes and systems. And it’s a St. Patrick Center Core Value.
St. Patrick Center’s most recent innovation has never before been attempted in our community.
For the past 18 months, we’ve been collaborating with Barnes-Jewish Hospital, the Foundation for Barnes-Jewish Hospital, BJC HealthCare, BJC Behavioral Health and the Behavioral Health Network of Greater St. Louis to create a new program—Hospital to Housing—for our medically fragile neighbors experiencing homelessness. We’re combining the best attributes of similar programs around the country with specific St. Louis knowledge and skills to serve to some of our most vulnerable citizens.
Begun on May 1, 2019, Hospital to Housing connects frequent users of the emergency department at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, who report as homeless, with permanent housing and case management services. The program has a capacity of 20 clients and in the first three months, we’ve received 11 patient referrals and housed nine clients.
We’re so grateful for this opportunity to do something new! We’re blessed to have a creative
team—willing to ask for help and take risks—just like our clients do every day. Our partners are
invaluable and if Hospital to Housing continues as it has begun, we’re on the path to an innovative, sustainable housing program for the St. Louis region!
God’s blessings to you,
