Alan

Air Force Veteran Soars

“St. Patrick Center programs will help you, if you’re willing to put in the work.”

For six years Alan served our country in the United States Air Force. When he left the service, his life took a turn for the worst. In his downward spiral, he struggled with substance abuse and homelessness. “I blew through my savings, totaled my car and was sleeping on friend’s couches.”

Eventually, Alan was able to connect with his family. He entered a Department of Veterans Affairs rehabilitation program and got a handle on his substance abuse problems. “I was able to talk to a psychiatrist and a therapist, and find all the care that I needed.” It was at the V.A. where Alan heard about St. Patrick Center and our long-time Homeless Veterans
Reintegration Program.

Alan enrolled in our veteran program and also participated in our Job Readiness Training classes. “I learned job skills to re-enter the workforce and retain employment.” Because of his dedication and help from his case managers, Alan found a job at an assisted living facility.

Today, Alan is thriving at his job and plans to begin nursing school. “The St. Patrick Center team helped me find my passion, but none of this would have happened if I did not take the first step—getting involved in the programs.”
