35 Years Strong in 2018

It all started on a bitterly cold day

Edith with kids - cover story

Founder Edith Cunnane distributed warm winter coats to the children of our clients, in the early days of St. Patrick Center.

St. Patrick Center achieved 35 years in 2018. Since 1983, staff, volunteers, donors and board members have dedicated themselves to the mission to end homelessness in the St. Louis region. The idea for our agency was formed by social worker Edith Cunnane on a bitterly cold day in downtown St. Louis. Thereafter, she worked in partnership with the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Catholic Charities of St. Louis and Monsignor Robert Slattery to create St. Patrick Center inside the former St. Patrick School at 6th and Biddle Streets.

Over the years, we’ve assisted thousands of individuals and families with a variety of programs and services designed to help them achieve independence after experiencing homelessness. We’re proud of our clients and how hard they worked to improve their lives. It is their stories of success, peace and happiness that keep us going.

Today, we’re a leading Housing First agency, with the knowledge, experience, passion and energy to continue the work that Edith began 35 years ago. We believe in a day when the St. Louis community will end chronic and veteran homelessness, and attain ‘functional zero’–positioning us for the future, with essential programs and services to care for people who fall on hard times.
